As regards the fifth paragraph of your second letter, we are not of the opinion that it is desirable for the battery to be discharging when all the load is on (exclusive of body lighting), and the dynamo on the peak, but we think that in this condition the dynamo should be slightly over-balancing the load, otherwise at faster speeds, say up to 35 m.p.h. at which a certain amount of night running may be done, the battery would be suffering a discharge of several amperes, which we do not think would be right.

We think the most satisfactory compromise is an output such that the dynamo would just balance the whole load at about 27 m.p.h., though others apparently are of the opinion that the dynamo should always be capable of balancing the load. With this we do not agree, as we think that the battery is there to act as a reservoir at suitable times.
