'INDIA' FRONT SPRINGS. X5410 We sent to London last weekend two 20 HP. cars fitted with 25% stiffer springs and the increased clearance between the buffer and the axle. These springs were made to your latest instructions. One car was the open car which we brought to WW., the other was a closed Landaulet. Attached is a copy of a note from BJ, in which he suggests that although the springs were satisfactory, they would prefer the 20% instead of the 25% stiffer. We could not appreciate any difference on the open car when changing from the 20 HP. to the 25%. The limits allowed on the springs are more than 5%. Front springs are ordered with differences of 50 lbs. - the average spring being 600 lbs. When one takes into account the variation in body weights, they are seldom within 5% of the estimated weight which is taken when the springs are fitted, we are doubtful if a 5% variation in the front springs would be appreciated. If the 20% springs are used, it will mean fresh drawings being got out for the spring makers as the 20% springs which were obtained by error do not give the required clearances. At the present time no front springs are on order for India fitted with 4-wheel brakes, and BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} is anxious contd :- | ||
