R.R. 493A (40 H) (SL 42 12-7-23). J.H., D.{John DeLooze - Company Secretary} -1- Expl. No. 9771 REF: Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/LG14.11.23. EXPERIMENTAL REPORT. THERMAL EFFICIENCIES AND HEAT DISTRIBUTION OF E.A.C. ENGINE & STD. 40/50 RR. COMPARED The E.A.C. engine was fitted with the Kmave Carb. This carburetter had the air valve spring removed and extra air was admitted through a part cut in the side. Adjustment was made to both fuel and air supply for each speed in order to obtain the maximum power and economy of fuel. For the test on the 40/50 RR. a standard carburetter was used. The mixture control was adjusted for each speed. The comparison of the thermal efficiencies, of these two engines, is based upon the air standard efficiency, owing to the difference of compression ratio. Figures are given on page 5. The tests on the E.A.C. and 40/50 RR. were conducted with the 'cut-out' on silencer open except in the case of the E.A.C. at speeds of 600 - 750 r.p.m. where it was closed in order to get sufficient heat to the standard 'hot-spot'. With the cutout closed, the E.A.C. hot-spot reaches a temp. of 350°C at 2000 r.p.m. at the particular spot where the thermo-meter was inserted. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/ACL. | ||
