This sheet(Wor{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager}/SM5/L4913) does not say to what batteries Mr. Platford refers, whether they are Edison or Exides.

The variation of voltage has been under discussion between me and the Works for some time, and from the figures received I had no reason to believe that there was any difference between either the Edison or the lead accumulators.

The Klaxon momentarily reducing the light would not appear to be a serious fault, and a change of voltage between the charging and discharging cells would result in a dull light while the car is standing, which ought not to hurt the lamp filiaments, although anyone reading in a closed car would be rather annoyed.

From the figures I received from the Works, I expected the Edison battery to be bad in this respect, but I should not have expected there to have been any difference in the various lead cells.

Should Mr. Platford be referring to the Edison cells, he can dismiss the subject, as we do not propose to fit these owing to their excessive first cost. It is the Exide cells that we are proposing critising most carefully.
