X.995 To EB. from EFC. c. Hr. c. Br.{T. E. Bellringer - Repair Manager} EFC16/T17.6.20. X.995 - INSTRUCTION BOOK. X.664 Your Mr. Wyer has told us that the possibility of operating the ignition on the chassis from the Lucas dynamo with no battery connected, even though the field fuse has melted, has been experienced in the Test Dept., This is due to the excitation effected on the dynamo by the control winding and we infer from his remarks that batteries are sometimes disconnected whilst some of the system is in operation. We would therefore like to emphasize the two following points, which are of course included in the matter for the Instruction Book. We are so modifying the matter concerning these two points as to make them less easily ignored. (a) The lighting of lamps, or operation of any part of the electrical system, direct from the dynamo, without the battery connected to the system, must be avoided. (b) Connections to the battery must not be made or broken whilst any part of the electrical system is so completed as to allow a charge or discharge current to pass to or from the battery. If this latter point be ignored there is risk of a serious explosion destructive to one or more cells of the battery, not to mention other damage, occurring. Contd | ||
