Bentley Exhaust System.

We have issued modifications for the 15 Bentley cars to bring them into line with the exhaust system on GWH{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux}'s car as this is the one that we know has stood up in France.

With this object in view we issued the steel springs in place of the rubbers for the suspension brackets, but these steel springs should not be used for the link which anchors the tail pipe as it was on this link that GWH{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux} found the rubbers were satisfactory.

Would you kindly, therefore, instruct soft rubbers to be used for the link only, these rubbers being of the type shewn on the LeC. design with the internal diameter fitting closely to the distance piece on the centre bolt.

We should like, however, Experimental Department to try the steel spring shewn on LeC. 3624 in the tail pipe link in place of the rubbers as if this is found to be satisfactory we can eliminate the use of rubber altogether on the 200 production Bentleys, assuming that the steel spring is used on the 10,000 mile test.

E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer}
