X.4357 - 20 H.P. BATTERY IGNITION - ENDURANCE TESTS OF CONTACT BREAKER RUBBING BLOCK.

Under cover of our EFC4/T19.2.23 report, principally in connection with tungsten contact points, we gave the results of comparative tests of contact breaker rubbing blocks, in continental bakelite and grey fibre respectively, (unlubricated). The result of which was to show that the wear on the fibre block was considerably less than that on the bakelite, but that on the other hand the former produced fluff which was likely to interfere with the proper functioning of the contact points.

Herewith we please receive copies of my assistant's reports on similar tests on similar rubbing blocks, but now in a lubricated condition. Comparing these two latest tests one with the other, we note that there is very little difference in the wear, but that little slightly in favour of the bakelite. The two levers fitted with their respective blocks are included for Mr. Royce's inspection.

The contact points on the levers are not present standard and were not included as part of the test.

Comparing the two tests with those for the unlubricated cases, it is noted that the wear in the case of the bakelite is considerably reduced, whereas in the case of the grey fibre it is not so much reduced, the wear table being as follows :-
