x4469, To E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} from ROY.{Sir Henry Royce} c. to Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} c. to RG.{Mr Rowledge} c. to BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} ---------------- ROY{Sir Henry Royce}8/MG7.6.32. ---------------- Vickers V.C.M. Steel Crankshafts, i.e. Nitrided type. Further to E2/HP29.4.32, kindly note arrangements have now been concluded with Vickers whereby they agree to supply Crankshafts in this V.C.M.Steel at the same figure as that ruling for our present standard Crankshaft Steel, i.e., Nickel Chrome. Additional to this there will of course be a charge involved for the nitriding of the Cranksjafts in such Steel. Vickers have already adapted a furnace for such work, and I am asking them for an approximate figure for the nitriding of such Crankshafts until the time when we have our own furnace, or furnaces, available - which I gather is under consideration, in order to avoid the cost of carriage to and from of the finished Crankshafts, apart from the risk of damage to same in transit.
