| BJ. from Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} c. BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} c. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c. CWH X8430 Worl/M1-6-26. Re Phantom. BJ23/E27-5-26: The Works are now going ahead producing the .940 lead worms and nuts, and we expect instructions from the D.O. today, Tuesday, respecting the steering support. The date at which we can commence the steering changeover is affected by the support stays for the steering. We expect to have both the nuts and worms, and steering support parts ready in three to four weeks' time. No time will be lost in pushing these through the Works. It will be seen, however, that there will be no advantage gained in sending men immediately to London to remove steering columns and return them to the Works, but we will see to it that they are sent in good time in order that there may be no delay in the fitting of the nut and worm to columns which have to be modified and returned to London for fitting to chassis. We will keep this matter before us and advise you when we propose to commence to send men to remove columns for returning to the Works, for the modification to be carried out. It would help us at the Works if Sales Dept. would kindly give us at once the number of cars with C. columns and the number of cars with D.{John DeLooze - Company Secretary} columns, affected. D.O. are at the present time instructing the Works to make 50% C. supports and 50% D.{John DeLooze - Company Secretary} supports. To avoid any delay, however, Sales might let us have this information as quickly as ever possible. [STAMP] RECEIVED 1 JUN 1926 | ||
