Phantom III Chassis.

We attach herewith a list of the design work completed on the Phantom III chassis during the last month and also particulars of design work in hand.

The clutch section having given trouble in various forms has received considerable design attention. We have issued designs covering increased pedal travel and ventilation applied to the existing clutch and we are now engaged on a completely new design embodying all the features found desirable as the result of experimental tests and in addition embodying several cost reductions.

Exhaust System. A design has been issued for a smaller diameter tail pipe with silent bloc suspension to overcome a boom period at low speeds. We are now engaged on the design of the revised lighter and cheaper exhaust system as developed by the Experimental Department.

Gear Box. The need for an easier gear change has received attention. We have issued a scheme providing greater leverage for the gear lever and a modification to the 2nd speed engaging mechanism to facilitate engagement. Reduced cost has also received attention, the speedometer drive having been simplified.

Valve Gear. Considerable attention has been given to this item, designs for low stressed valve springs in less costly material, an alternative camshaft and tappet, and various modifications to the engine lubrication system have been completed with the object of increasing the reliability and reducing the cost of this section.

Cylinder Head. In view of the success of the deturbulated cylinder head on the 25/30 HP, we have applied this modification to the four and six port Phantom III cylinder heads.
