x8900 S. to W. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} from CWB. CWB1/ED{J. L. Edwards}/19.12.25. Re: CHASSIS 11-EX - 10,000 MILE TRIAL. The above car was given a complete car test yesterday and was also put through the standard over-oiling test. Beyond a slight servo groan, there are no comments to make on the general running of the Chassis. The acceleration appears good; it performed well on the standard climbing test, taking into consideration the actual weight and the passengers carried. So far, it does not appear to be very fast, but I suspect the Speedometer, which is a Smith, owing to our having fitted a Smith Direct Drive Screen Wiper, as we could only get the attachments to suit the Smith Speedometer also. After the overoiling test, all the plugs were covered with a black powdery deposit and were exceptionally dry. The Cylinder walls were examined and were found very dry indeed; in fact, there were hardly any traces of oil on the walls at all, excepting in No. 6. Cylinder which was only very lightly covered. The condition of these walls is dryer than we should care to pass for a standard car, but I assume that you are aware of this and am commencing the test on this assumption. If you should have any remarks to make on this matter, please let me know at once. The final weight of the car with 10 gallons of petrol, one spare wheel and no tools was:- Front Axle ... 1 ton. 3 cwt. 1 qr. 14 lbs. Rear Axle ... 1 ton. 4 cwt. 1 qr. 21 lbs. Total. 2 tons. 8 cwt. 0 qrs. 21 lbs. | ||
