See me Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} To Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} from ROY{Sir Henry Royce} c. to E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} c. to DY{F R Danby} c. to Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} ROY{Sir Henry Royce}10/MG20.6.33 ROAD WHEELS FOR BENTLEY CAR Following the agreement arrived at this morning, I would report as under: 1 - I have advised the Dunlop Company not to proceed with the 12 sets of hand-made Wheels released last night. 2 - I have spoken to Mr. Goodyear (Dunlop Rim & Wheel Co. Coventry) personally, and stated his prices were so abnormally high that the Administration were not proceeding further with the matter for the moment; advising him that Mr. Shankland, Sales Director of the Dunlop Company, Birmingham would be with us to-morrow afternoon, and suggesting that he, or one of his Coventry colleagues might care to come over at the same time, when the matter could be discussed more in detail. From Mr. Goodyear's remarks I doubt if he will accept this invitation, as he stated their quotation for such Bentley Wheels, either tool-made or hand-made, had been gone into most exhaustively before issue, and he felt convinced they could offer no reduction. 3 - I have advised Mr. Lanstad, Works Manager of the Rudge-Whitworth Company, Birmingham, to proceed with 15 sets of such Wheels, embodying all the refinements in the sample set they delivered these Works on the 15th instant, and to make the necessary arrangements to carry out their promised delivery, i.e. approximately 5 sets in 2/3 weeks from date, and the balance shortly thereafter - emphasizing the importance of such wheels being perfect in every detail, and stating that we are quite prepared to pay them a reasonable extra for such refinements. At the same time I advised him that we should be only too pleased to send representatives over to collaborate with them in any details, and probably he will avail himself of this offer in about a week or 10 days from date, when manufacture of the 15 sets has progressed a little further.
