contd:- -3- so I approach it rather cautiously. I am, however, alarmed with this weakness on the 40/50 which seems to vary considerably with post-war cars, and the fact that we are now having a bit of a scrap with the Watford people who state that they consider the contacts on their E6. magneto are likely to require replacing after a magneto has been run 10,000 miles. Carburation. TMW. has been making some comparative tests with the S.U. and R-R Carburetter on the 40/50 engine on the Test Bed and finds that the S.U. is the most favourable of the two, although the S.U. people tell us that the carburetter is too small and are preparing a larger one to continue the test. TMW. will report more fully on this when he is able to give you more information and actual figures. This information is therefore, sent to you for you to make use of as you think fit. As regards the S.U. carburetter for the Goshawk, we feel that the experimental work so far as obtaining immediate benefit is concerned, is now about exhausted and we feel that we have now a carburetter fixed on our experimental Goshawk car which gives the best results which they are able to give us at present. These results compare quite favourably with the R-R and certainly does appear to have a distinct advantage as regards better acceleration. From rough road tests, one also has the impression that the consumption is better. This point can only be confirmed by considerable comparative running. Serck Radiator. Roy.{Sir Henry Royce} is pressing for a report on this radiator and I see by the correspondence from Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} and your reply, that you propose trying this on the bumping test. TMW. is now arranging to rig up one of these radiators on the Bump Test. Have you any comments with regard to this matter. Roy.{Sir Henry Royce} seems rather keen on pushing this radiator; evidently the question of price is favourable. EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} | ||
