40/50 GEARBOX. X.3426
X.8310

In view of :-

(1) The trouble experienced with India 1st. and 2nd. speed pinions.

(2) That on the 40/50 gearbox rearranged for the 'V' series underframe chassis we have locating plungers in place of the notched gate.

(3) That without the notches referred to in (2) considerable force was required to hold it in the 2nd. gear, and the 1st. had a tendency to come out, as reported in Hs {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} 5/LG28.2.25.

We are sending herewith torsionally free pinion for the 40/50 (Lec.2021 original to BY. {R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} print to R. {Sir Henry Royce} ) which we consider it will be necessary to use with the underframe gearbox.
