7. Should we not enquire immediately what other companies are doing in this respect, and whether we shall be at a disadvantage in being unable to supply artillery wheels whilst our competitors may be supplying artillery wheels with brakes? Perhaps we can ascertain how other makers have overcome this difficulty.

8. With reference to the suggestion that we should offer to pay customers money instead of supplying them with front wheel brakes, when I previously discussed this with you, I believe you came to the conclusion that it would be bad policy for us to state that we were fitting front wheel brakes because of their numerous advantages, and then to say to customers "We will pay you something if you do not have them." It would sound inconsistent, if we had come to the conclusion that a thing was right, for us to tell people that they need not have it and that we would pay them if they went without it.

9. Under the circumstances, perhaps you would wish to place the whole matter before W.W. and Derby, to ascertain whether they have finally come to the conclusion that it is absolutely impossible and out of the question for front wheel brakes to be fitted to artillery wheels. Even if we could tell customers they could have front wheel brakes and artillery wheels, but that such an arrangement would have disadvantages (such as altering the steering lock, etc.), this would be easier than definitely saying we cannot supply them.
