X. 9940 To Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} from DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} S E C R E T. DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}2/M29.1.24. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} A.{Mr Adams} C. FOUR WHEEL BRAKES. X. 9940 We telegraphed to you this morning suggesting trying removing the non-wrapping shoe from the rear axle so as to get the benefit of the wrapping shoe only, which we understand from your figures raises the apparent co- efficient of friction from .43 and .84 and should thus give us a further drop of half in the work done by the servo. We suggest this as a test, to see what the effect is, and if people were agreed that it was an advantage we could design some all-wrapping shoes either on Perrot's linesor on our own lines, suitable for the back brakes. Since we had this idea we believe Mr. Royce has wired you practically agreeing to a slow speed servo, in which case the urgency of this experiment is less. DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} | ||
