Swindell} C.I. CONVENTIONAL 8 - CRANKCASE AND CYLINDERS. Please receive herewith:- E.CD.1128 Modified Top Half Crankcase. C.I. Conventional 8. The principal modifications to the mono-bloc casting to suit the adaptation of the conventional type of cylinder head to the straight eight engine, are shown on this design, the affected part being chiefly local to the tappet chamber etc. The alteration to the top joint face was shown on E.CD.1122. Particulars of the modified petrol pump position will be shown on a later design. The disposition of the cams should be noted and particulars of the cam form to be used will be issued later. We have stiffened up the tappet covers as compared with those on the B.80 to reduce the possibility of oil leaks at their joint. The crankcase below the level of the camshaft is the same as for the B.80 using Vandervell journal bearings with the increased journal diameter. With this information, it is possible to proceed with the detail of the crankcase and cylinder block. DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} | ||
