XL554 RECEIVED Dept. C. Wd.{Mr Wood/Mr Whitehead} c. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c. EF. c. SFT.{Mr Swift} BYS-P13.10.32. GOSHAWK II. MATERIAL. With reference to what we consider for the moment Goshawk II Series material, I have discussed this fully with Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} and with the exception of the series affected by the following items the D.O. should release material for a further 250 sets;- (1) Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} is testing out at the moment an improved design of crankshaft, by which the section of the journals and webs is increased - he is not in a position to be able to say whether it will give any advantage or not. (2) Crankcase. This will be held up owing to possible modifications for using the fixing for the steering box as a cantilever of the engine crankcase only. (3) Steering Mounting. The method of mounting the steering column in relation to the engine may be modified - this does not affect any of the parts on the steering column and steering box, but simply the shaft and brackets to which the steering box is bolted. (4) Radiator & Fittings, including Louvres. This item again is one that Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} is testing out an improved design for, but he cannot state anything in regard to the value of the improvement at the moment. (5) Carburetter. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} would like to have more time on this particular section as probable improvements in carburation are pending. BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} | ||
