To: Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} From G.W.H. Hôtel de France, Châteauroux, Indre. We have sent you to-day the following telegram:- PN{Mr Northey} CAN TAKE 23-EX TUESDAY FROM CHATEAUROUX. We sent you this telegram, because if P.N. wants to be met with the car, we cannot meet him on Tuesday, without it was late in the evening, and we do not know what his intentions are. We have been able to carry out the modified radiator tests on 24-EX without interfering with the mileage of 23-EX, therefore, as we stated previously, our mileage will be finished on Saturday. This will give us two clear days to examine the car and get it ready for leaving here. We have again had signs that the cooling efficiency of the radiator is insufficient, under certain circumstances. Our drivers this morning complained of the water coming to boil when driving between 60 & 70 M.P.H. with a following wind and an air temperature of only 19°C. When they slowed down to turn round, the water definitely boiled and approx. a gallon of water was lost. After replacing this loss of water and returning head on with the wind, the temperature did not reach above 81°C. with the same air temperature. It rather points to the inefficiency of the fan not being able to draw sufficient air through the radiator by its own attempts, or else it is the wind that is baffling the outlet underneath the car. Re tappet noises. We are getting the same trouble with No. 6 tappet as we had with No. 11, which we found to | ||
