Copy To C. - from Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} Private. Wor{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager}4/MB/7/24. Re Show Chassis Paris & Olympia. CG/CS/7/24. We thank you for your revised dates, which will considerably help us for the delivery of these chassis to Sales. The front wheel brakes are not yet standardised, although two chassis have practically finished their 10,000 miles. There are, however, a few trivial things that are still needing attention, and the third chassis is now ready for proceeding to France. In addition even at this moment we have not all the material delivered to us from Order Office for front wheel brakes, but there is, however, a splendid move being made, and everybody concerned, in spite of the fact they have been working most holidays this year, will work during the forthcoming summer holidays in order to finish these cars. We note that you require 20 chassis fitted with front wheel brakes and we have a sporting chance of keeping the dates that you ask us to keep. The Works are hoping to put on test two or three chassis at the latter end of this week and hope to give Mr.Platford the whole of these 20 by the end of this month, so that should just about give Mr.Platford time to deliver them to you. Mr.Platford has promised that the Test Dept. shall work holidays in order to get them away. We think we are going to manage this but with a job of this kind there may be hold-ups, in fact it is fairly certain there will be. Is it at all possible for the coachbuilders to further the making of the bodies by some temporary chassis, in case we happen to be a day or two late? With reference to the future number of cars that we are likely to build still without front wheel brakes, the following should give you a definite understanding:- We intend to build chassis with front wheel brakes from August 7th. this being the date when we return from our holidays. We shall have further built out of the 200 of "T" series material 180 chassis without front wheel brakes and 20 Show chassis with front wheel brakes, therefore using up in the main the whole of "T" series material, so that on August 7th. we shall start at No. 1 of "U" series and build front wheel brakes on all chassis. | ||
