Your reference HL/M19.8.27.
We have recently received a second sleeveless magneto, No.99171. There are a number of modifications on this magneto as compared with the first one, No.98201 which is now on chassis 9-EX, details of which will be reported to you when we have completed our usual bench tests of this machine in comparison with others. We hope by that time possibly to receive a further up-to-date Lucas machine and then we can send you the two for comparison.
You will remember it was reported to you that the contact breaker on the first Watford was rather noisy. For this reason, these two magnetos (Lucas and Watford), originally fitted to 9-EX and 10-EX respectively, have been exchanged between these two chassis, in order to obtain the quieter machine on chassis 10-EX, which we understand is to come to you shortly. We expect, however, the contact breaker on the second Watford machine of this type to be quieter. It has longer cams and slightly different electrical timing, as suggested by ourselves for better functioning.
