X 1166 Exptl. Dept. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Bwg.{J. C. Bowring}15/KW. 23rd May, 1935. The Dunlop Company Ltd., Fort Dunlop, Erdington, Birmingham. For the attention of Mr. Carr. Dear Sirs, Modified Bentley Jacks. With reference to our 'phone conversation of this morning re the above. In answer to your two queries we would say that - (1) The weight of a heavy Bentley Saloon car is approximately 33 cwts. 3 qrs., the rear being 18 cwts. 2 qrs. and the front 15 cwts. 20 lbs. When jacking up individual wheels these weights of course are reduced to approximately half the total weight of the front or rear respectively. Under the circumstances your test load of 15 cwts. should be ample. (2) If you reduce the maximum lift by .250", that is, reduce the min. height by .125", this will slide under the spring pad when anyone tyre is deflated. We did not actually measure the clearance between tyre and ground with the Jack fully extended, but observed that the sample Jack had a very good lift which will stand reducing by .250". We trust this is the information you require. If, however, you require other figures, we shall be pleased to let you have them. Yours faithfully, FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LIMITED. | ||
