ENGINE UNDERSHIELD.
In reply to your memo. BY/C6/H29.10.24., please note Mr. Royce is agreeable to putting a little more set, namely, .250 in the cross steering tube to increase the clearance at the point where the engine undershield passes between the tube and the wheelcase. At the same time he would like Mr. Hives to make bump tests to compare the value of the bent cross steering tube with a straight one. With regard to clearing the curved up portion of the tube we should like you to alter the shape of the apron of the undershield at the side somewhat as shewn in the sketch below. The slot shield through which the brake ropes passes will require corresponding modification.
