The Experimental Department request that six .312 diameter holes should be drilled at a 4.125 pitch diameter in the flat face of the outer cone. These holes have been drilled in the cones of boxes built in the Experimental Dept, but not in those built in the Works, and so far as we know there has been no difference observed in the behaviour with or without the holes. We are, therefore, not sure that they are necessary, but in view of their provision on the experimental boxes we think that they should be instructed for production also. We understand that there are as yet no production boxes built up, so there will be no question about the pulling down of boxes to drill these holes. E/HDY.{William Hardy} | ||
