50% greater life of a coupling using spigoted bolts compared to unspigoted bolts.

of the fabric. We find that with these bolts spigoted as in sketch A.{Mr Adams} the life of a coupling is 50% greater than with unspigoted bolts. The reason for the existing scheme would appear to be the lack of room on the Phantom when the coupling was originally introduced. There is more room on the S.S. however, and BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} has given us a drawing which enables us to fit these spigoted bolts.
It will be remembered that the original method of holding the coupling shewn on G.76906 was a failure when tried on the first S.S. cars.
