X 3398 - To Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} from EFC. EFC1/T30.10.22. X.3398 - P & R BATTERY FOR 40/50. It would be interesting to know the nature of the discussion which you say this matter has undergone. I take it to mean that discussion has taken place between yourself and Mr. Royce. In our opinion nothing would be gained by getting Messrs. Peto & Radford to construct a battery of the dimensions of our standard, but without containing case. If the weight were less, there would not be the additional capacity. There is the additional capacity in the proposed battery without any increase in weight. You say it is pointed out that the larger battery does not overcome the difficulty in London. Has this view been expressed by our London people ?? If so, I am very surprised because primarily the whole agitation for the use of a larger battery has come from that direction. At least that is my impression, as I am sure that we have not argued the necessity of it from the point of view of experimental tests, but have only agreed to the desirability after hearing what Sales have had to say. Have you heard Mr. Nothey's view on this point ? As we feel that we are awaiting Mr. Royce's final decision on this point we should be glad if you would let us know if we may take your note as also an expression of Mr. Royce's opinion, in which case this would finally settle the matter for us.
