Bailey - Chief Engineer} Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}2/KT.13.11.33. SMALL CARBURETTER TEST FOR THE SPECTRECodename for Phantom III ENGINE. We have carried out a test on the two smaller S.U. carburetters on the Bentley engine, as requested, in order to determine whether carburetters of this size would materially affect the power output of the engine at high speeds. Our preliminary figures show that we shall not lose more than 2% at the top speeds even with the Bentley camshaft. We therefore anticipate that with a camshaft suitable for an R.R. car the loss will be negligible. It also appears that it would be worth while carrying on with the small carburetters on the Bentley to see if we can get improved pick up and better slow running; if this is confirmed we should also save weight.
