It has also been found quite unnecessary to carry out the usual decarbonising. In practice the valves and their seats are kept in better condition, due to absence of sticking and burning and after the carbon has built up to a certain extent no further increase takes place. It will be observed that the lubricator once fitted operates entirely automatically. It is absolutely simple and quite fool proof and requires no attention whatever. As a chassis lubricator it can be used in the place of the usual one shot hand or pedal operated apparatus. Observation to date over a number of engines has shown the maximum bore wear, whether fitted with liners or not, to be .002" after 30,000 miles. Other cases have shown a maximum wear of .0015" after 50,000 miles. 2. | ||
