| Contd. -8- EFC2/T6.10.19. (e) LAMP CONNECTIONS. As already described under switchbox, connections are provided on the Lucas board for the usual lamps, namely two heads, two sides, and one tail, but provision is made at the rear end of the chassis by means of a tail lamp terminal block for the placing and connection of theTail lamp on either side of the chassis. (f) STARTER MOTOR. The starter motor is a four pole, four brush, wave wound armature, series wound motor and draws a current of from 90 to 110 amperes from the battery at about 9.5 volts on its terminals when turning the engine over for the purpose of starting. The motor is ina position on the chassis opposite to the dynamo, and drives by means of a chain from motor to gear box. There is a 6 to 1 epicyclic gear reduction on the motor and a further 6 to 1 epicyclic gear reduction on the gear box. The reduction of the chain transmission is 14 : 13, and owing to the power being applied to the second motion shaft in the gear box, there is a step up though the second motion shaft in the gear box, of 3 to 5 resulting in an overall reduction from motor to engine of 23.3 :1. (g) ELECTRICALLY OPERATED MAIN SWITCH FOR STARTER MOTOR. This switch is provided with copper contacts for the main current and carbon contacts to take the break, and is electromagnetically operated by means of current ciculating in its coil winding.
