so that all cells will be accessible without having to go
to this trouble.

We fear that, if that is not the case, there will
be little chance of the battery receiving proper attention
and we were therefore alarmed for the life of batteries which
were apparently to be subject to these drawbacks, particularly
in view of the fact that the battery in this position gets
much hotter from engine heat than on the running board, which
heat accelerates direct evaporation and also that due to
overcharging.

X7736 - It has been suggested that the difficulty with
regard to the removal of the lids can be met by dispensing
with lids altogether. We do not agree to this, because we
know from experience with batteries that have been run on
experimental cars uncovered that the top of the battery does
get into considerable mess with dust and damp which may have
effect on the sealing compound, not to mention electrical
leakage that might be produced. It has been suggested, and
it appears to us to be a suitable way out of the difficulty,
that we should use a metal lid{A. J. Lidsey} to the E.H. box rather than
the two separate lids of the battery cases. If this can
conveniently be arranged, it would seem to be an improvement.

Regarding the Instruction Book instruction to attend
to the battery weekly, if or when we are able to fit a charge
reducing switch (automatic or otherwise, but particularly
automatic) it will be possible to extend the time to double
and perhaps treble what it is at present.
