Regarding the adjustment of the servo, there must be something defective with the way in which this arrangement has been carried out or is used, for instance, -
(1) In the specimen I have seen the teeth are not even-ly spaced, and do not match one another satisfactorily.
(2) There should not be the slightest need for the use of a spanner, merely a knurled nut should do the necessary adjustment. If however the servo has too much clear-ance when so adjusted it would be wrong to use great spanner force to force the nut over the ratchet teeth so as to get less clearance. We fear this is what is happening.
Naturally it is of the greatest importance that there should be no such thing as the servo acting through insufficient clearance or any other defect, as the result might be very undesirable. We therefore want this adjustment to be as fool-proof as ever possible. We are sending you a few modifications to see whether they act better. We are pleas-ed{J. L. Edwards} to hear that the other parts intended for production are promising well, and that you are in a fair way to getting a really satisfactory arrangement.
I shall be pleased to see you or a car as soon as you have a model with which you are satisfied, or have carried as near perfection as circumstances will permit.
You will remember that I have been very desirous that the following points shall represent our policy:-
