18830 To Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} from BJ. Copy to C. Copy to Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} Sports Car. We expect this will be with R.{Sir Henry Royce} next week and, if he passes it, Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} expects to have another chassis completed in about 4 weeks from now. Therefore, it is desirable that the body should be ready by then. The other two bodies can be continued but are not required in such a hurry. The programme would be for the sports car to start for its 10,000 miles run in about 5 weeks, and probably when it is half way through its run, we should be completing the other two cars, so that, unless any unforeseen circumstances were to arise, the other two cars would be ready for the Riviera or other purposes towards the end of January or early in February. It is agreed that the grouped instruments shall not be fitted to the Sports car or any other car until we have gone further into the matter of the cost which is now being investigated. In the meantime one mock-up chassis will be sent as soon as possible by Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} to you for the coachbuilders, and it is hoped that the same chassis can be used for all three coachbuilders. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} will let you know how soon he can deliver this mock-up chassis. I understand that you will arrange for the first sports body to be made as quickly as possible, the coach-builder working night and day to have it ready for the 10,000 miles test. BJ. | ||
