APPENDIX.

CHASSIS - 2-7-AS - BENTLEY. Mileage up-to-date, 27,198 miles.

Close-coupled Coupé by Park Ward & Co.

(1) Nearside door dropped about 3/16 ins - knocked here.

(2) The attachment of the head to the screen top channel and not to the screen pillar is bad, as all the thrust of the cant-rail comes on to this flexible member.

The old screen pillar attachment, although less elegant, is the practical job. Rattles occurred at screen pillar and the pillar was forced forward on closing the door.

(3) The hinged [handwritten: hinge] joint in the cant-rail had no transverse stiffness. The joint knocked and rattled. A better hinge is needed and some sort of rubber insulation should be added.

(4) The frog links in the head rattle at the joints where rivetted. Larger bearing areas and better fitting pins are called for in place of the rivets.

(5) The front floor creaked and knocked as the car was allowed to roll along on an uneven cobbled yard.

(6) The top of the near-side front door touched the cant-rail when closed and caused knocks. The doors being floating, should only contact on their buffers.

(7) The back of the body appeared to be in contact with the chassis frame other than at the body brackets, as squeaks and knocks came from the rear. I was unable to investigate this.

(8) The door glasses rattle. There is a cure for this now, which could be fitted to this car.

(9) Offside door finisher creaks.

(10) Roof lamp rattles.

(11) Rear squab knocked - being loose.

(12) One horn was fouling the wing (near-side) causing a squeak.

Incidentally, I would mention that the heat in the scuttle was too much to be pleasant, and the liberal supply of black grease on the door buffers got on my clothes.
