RE METAL FOR HIGH & LOW TENSION CONTACTS X 3199 X.3199 X.2894. X.1818 X 3199 X.800 X3309 X3129 Referring to Mr. Elliott's notes E2/G15.10.19, and E3/G15.10.19, we submitted a pair of low tension contacts obtained from the Remy and Delco Company of 14 Panton Street London, to Messrs. Johnson Matthey for analysis, and attached is a copy of the result, from which you will see that these contacts are metallic tungsten. We have obtained specimens of metallic tungsten from Messrs. Gallenkamp with a view to having these made up into contacts for tests, but our Experimental Dept. say that these are too difficult to work up into the necessary shape, and at the present moment a 1/8" bar of this material is in Mr. Hall's hands in order to see if suitable treatment can be given to this to enable it to be worked. We have made enquiries from time to time from the Delco Company as to where to obtain suitable tungsten but they have not been too ready to give this information and it has appeared difficult to get hold of the correct stuff except by buying contacts ready made up on screws from that Company. This we have done as stated above, and we now have a pair of these contacts fitted to a chassis ignition screw and blade for the purpose of test. We have just tried these on a car Contd. | ||
