31. EX. - PHANTOM III.

Will you please note that the rope support bracket fitted on the rear axle cannot be removed without first removing the propeller shaft. This can be averted by milling out the centre portion at the top, to conform with circular diameter of the propeller coupling.

REAR BRAKE LEVERAGE ON BRAKE CARRIER PLATE JAMMING.

We have made a modification to the needle bearings to try to keep out water and dirt. We found the needle rollers solid with dirt inside the bearing. The needles were being attacked either with rust or chemical action, the surface being eaten away. Our modification is, the fitting of a felt washer either side the lever, a steel washer on the top of the felt for the needles, the needles having been shortened to allow for this. The bearings have been packed with the special propeller shaft grease.

QUIET TAPPETS.

We are experiencing trouble with the oil supply to the plungers. The small hole has been found choked up with fluff, which quite possibly has come about with the dismantling of the engine. To overcome this trouble, special cleaning baths will have to be used in service. We have also had the oil supply limited, by foreign matter under the pump release valve practically no feed reaching the rocker shaft. At the moment we are being continually held up owing to these troubles.
