40/50 HP. Chassis - Rear Springs.

Our stock of thick leaf rear springs is increasing instead of decreasing, due I am told to disinclination to fit thick leaf springs to chassis now in course of construction, and also due to the removal of thick leaf springs from existing chassis of "N" and "O" Series and substitution therefor of thin leaf springs.

On the 23rd ult. the number of thick leaf rear springs in Stores was 252, of which 34 have split main plates. Since that date the stock has increased and is today probably 270 springs, which represent the requirements of 135 chassis.

The approximate value of these springs is £2000 and it would be well to have some standard policy with regard to them.

Other rear springs which we have in stock comprise the following:-

124 Thin leaf, solid eye type, square-edge plates
88 " " rolled " " "
39 " " rolled " round-edge "

The present standard rear spring is the thin leaf, rolled eye, round-edge plates.

May I suggest that this matter be discussed by the Works Committee at its Meeting on Wednesday, 4th inst. at 11.15 a.m.

Wd. {Mr Wood / Mr Whitehead}
