Phantom II.

Depot modification to Heavy Exhaust Valves, to overcome difficulty of quietening valves in service.

Attached are remarks by E/McStay. giving history of these valve failures and modifications.

The point is that the valves as modified by GWH.{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux} are practically the same as those shewn on LeC.3960, which have done some running, but we do not know whether it is enough to justify their adoption for replacements. Perhaps Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} can say.
