TO BJ: FROM R.{Sir Henry Royce} c. to CU. IHS. c. to DM.{D. Munro} HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c. to EF. C. R1/MS. 8. 23. GOSHAWK HEAD LAMPS. x4090 We have seen the proposed new lamp for the Goshawk. The one referred to here is of 10" dia., designated RB.{R. Bowen}65. It is of entirely different construction to the standard 40/50 lamp, and it was weighed by us and found to be 6 lbs., which is very satisfactory. It had an excellent appear-ance on the car, very much better than the smaller standard lamp used on the 40/50. We understand this new pattern is also one which permits of a thinner gauge and hence the very moderate weight of 6 lbs. mentioned above. We at WW. think there is not the slightest doubt but that this lamp is very suitable indeed and is not too heavy to be carried on the fittings provided on the mudguard stays. The shape and internal wiring makes a very neat job. These lamps should be entirely shut off when necess-ary in traffic, or a dimmer should be fitted. Personally I am inclined to think that all things considered, the dip-ping head lights are hardly to be desired owing to their doubtful legality and the somewhat untidy appearance of rods and wires that they entail. The side lights were suggested by me to be fitted so as to look down a few degrees so as to be less glaring and more useful than if fitted horizontally. LUGGAGE CARRIER. The luggage carrier is having attention and we will send the design for the fitting to prevent the jumping up of the luggage as quickly as possible. R.{Sir Henry Royce} | ||
