SG.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} } FROM R.{Sir Henry Royce} HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} } BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} } Copy to LHS.{Lord Herbert Scott} " WOR.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} " C. ORIGINAL SECRET. INDIA - NOT JAPAN. R1/M24.6.29. X5380 As soon as ever possible adopt the 3" longer frame, 19" from the road, with two steerings: (a) 'D', but 2" shorter, (b) New 'E' - 'D' plus 2", and lower, so as to make possible 6 facing forward seats on 'D', and real owners and sportive low steering on 'E'. This will give most of the advantages desired, but in a somewhat reduced degree. This scheme also requires the spare wheel to slope to allow the same overhang at the rear as at present. We send you this memo. because it will be some time before 'Japan' is ready, and it is imperative to get a move on this car towards improved leg room and scuttle appearance. The 'Japan' chassis will go a little further in the direction of being a little lower and of better appearance. It will be yet another 1" lower, and the engine we hope will be lighter and more powerful. We have some excellent features to add to facilitate getting the engine right easily, and for its good performance. R.{Sir Henry Royce} | ||
