As pointed out to Mr. Elliot we have found several instances where the bottom tappets do not line up truly with the camshaft causing cross-bedding. This is due to inaccuracies of the tappet guide fitting on its dowel, the latter being machined in the tappet block, and the small working clearance allowed for the tappet to work in its guide After running there is a tendency for the tappet to become tight in its guide at the lower open end.
