1294 14th. February 1939. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/AFM.{Anthony F. Martindale}2/G.{Mr Griffiths - Chief Accountant / Mr Gnapp} The Bifurcated & Tubular Rivet Co. Ltd., Aylesbury, Bucks. Dear Sirs, We are getting unsatisfactory results from some 312 x 8 x 250 x 037 solid copper tubular rivets. These rivets are machine rivetted and only the part of the rivet farthest from the head spreads enough to fill the hole. The result is that the friction lining comes loose. It is universally recognised that rivets, to be satisfactory, must swell and completely fill the hole. Can you suggest a modification which will effect an improvement. The rivets are .161" diameter, the hole .187" diameter to enable the rivets to drop in on the machine: we are trying the effect of reducing the hole to .161" diameter, but in all probability machine rivetting will be impossible if we do this. As the solution to this problem is required urgently, we should be greatly obliged by an early reply. Yours faithfully, FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LIMITED. P.S. Will you please supply one gross of the rivets mentioned above by return of post. we are having an official order sent you for these. | ||
