MUNICH TO BERLIN RECORD

RECORD: 4 hours 32 minutes for the 576 kilometres (about 360 miles) from Berlin (Hotel Kaiserhof) to Munich (Odeons Platz).

AUTOBAHN RECORD: 3 hours 57 minutes for the 527 kilometres (about 330 miles) from the beginning of the Autobahn at the Berlin end to the end of the Autobahn at the Munich end.

NOTE: Distance from Hotel Kaiserhof to beginning of Autobahn is 37 kilometres (approximately 23 miles).

Distance from end of Autobahn to Odeons Platz, Munich, is 12 kilometres (approximately 7½ miles).

RECORD HOLDER: Reichs Leader Adolf Huehnlein, head of the NSKK, National Socialist Motor Corps.

WHEN ESTABLISHED: November 7, 1938.

WEATHER CONDITIONS: Cool. Roads free from all ice. It was raining on leaving Berlin. Thick mist was encountered on stretches totalling about 200 kilometres (about 125 miles) chiefly near Nuernberg and Ingolstadt.

ROAD CONDITIONS: The road was nowhere specially cleared of traffic and Herr Huehnlein observed all traffic regulations. The Autobahn is all one road.

MAKE OF CAR: Mercedes-Benz sports two-seater model "540 K" fitted with compressor. Is 180/230 horse power, eight cylinders, and is 5.4 litres.
