-4- GEAR BOX & ADJ. GEAR LOZ. 950794 MS.3911-LMQ.3902-3843. The changing of gears - 2nd. to 3rd. and 3rd. to top has remained a good standard. No reports of crashing is due to trying to make very rapid changes, which the synchromesh cone clutches have not been designed for. The gears have remained a good standard for quietness. Wear in the rear bearing of the third motion shaft has taken place, a fair amount of slackness can be felt. There has been no loss of oil from the box. SERVO FULLY FLOATING TYPE. There is not sufficient clearance allowed in the diameters of the drum and the driving plates to allow the plates to follow up, due to wear of the fabrice. We have had to make this modification, as the plates were binding on the outer diameters. There is nothing lost in efficiency in making greater clearances. The Servo has remained efficient since the modification. With the leaving out entirely of the hand lubrication, it is essential that the spindle of the Servo should be lubricated before being erected. In this case it was found dry and inclined to rust. 36° cams have been retained as giving the best all round results. No wear is perceptible in the bridge bearing. PROPELLOR SHAFT MS.3911 - GL.{G. Linnett}72S. DAMPER FLYWHEEL ON TRANSMISSION COMPLETE TO THE ABOVE SCHEME. There has been no over-run period throughout the mileage. The flywheel damper has retained its friction load. The mechanics joints have lost very little grease - Oil of a pint throughout the mileage. No wear is perceptible. REAR AXLE L.OP. G.36383 MS.373D.3931-3893-BL.65Y. RR.Sch.504. AXLE R'T'O 6 IV 9.A II x 30 RATIO. The rear axle has remained a good standard for quietness. No loss of oil throughout the mileage. REAR BRAKES. L.OP. G.36534 MS.3931 - RR.Sch.504. The rear brakes have been efficient. Wear has been considerable, a total of six full turns of adjustment. Examination of the brakes proved them to be in a good condition. Drums free from scores. FRONT BRAKES. RR.Sch.303-326-336. The front brakes have been more efficient after rebobbling and alteration to the equalising shaft levers. The brake ropes were too short on this car, which caused approximately half the leverage of the levers to be in operation. Examination of the brakes showed the OS. drum to be still scored, as when examined at 5,000 miles. The MS. was in a good condition. | ||
