TO EFC. FROM AJS. ORIGINAL AUTOMATIC SWITCH UNIT. In reference to this, which we expect to send you shortly, and which has been unavoidably delayed, we should be glad to know what you consider is the smallest cross sectional area of stranded copper flexible that can be used to supply current to the carbon contacts on the main switch. R.{Sir Henry Royce} has asked that we have two of these contacts, one on each side of the main switch brush, and it is rather doubtful (although we have a fine adjustment) whether these contacts can be reckoned to make and break simultaneously. The reason we are asking you the foregoing question is that it appears to us the flexibles can be relatively small owing to the fact that the current is passing through them for such a very short space of time, and the smaller and finer these can be made, the more convenient will it be for the design.
