We have made every effort to introduce nothing in the way of novelty which might have been avoided, in producing "V" Series. We have made this attempt absolute in regard to introducing nothing which would modify the chassis prints sent to coachbuilders. In regard to the single pole lamps, these are not, as would appear on the face of it, arbitrary change. They are a consequent and necessary change imposed by the adoption of the R.R. Dynamo and R.R. Switch Box which were definitely agreed to at the Grosvenor Hotel as a part of "V" Series program. If we cannot used earthed wiring for "V" Series, this means that we shall have to have an entirely different type of switch designed and produced. I cannot personally appreciate what the objection to the single pole lamp is based upon when it is once understood that earthed wiring is a necessity imposed upon us by the "V" Series existing designs and parts. The wiring itself will not be externally different. The lamp can be precisely the same except that one side of the lamp is earthed instead of coming out to a terminal, and since the lamps themselves need not be ordered until the coachwork is well advanced, it is obvious that by that time the new engine proposals will have become public property. Unless R.{Sir Henry Royce} introduces a scheme to use the Lucas Dynamo and Switch Box for "U" Series which is a point which has been raised, it would mean that we should have to have an earthed system for "U" Series when changing over, but if Mr.Royce embodies, as I think he can, the Lucas dynamo and Contd. | ||
