X3575 ROLLS-ROYCE OF AMERICA, INC. SPRINGFIELD, MASS. Oy1-E-10725 October 7th, 1925. Mr. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} W. Hives, Rolls-Royce, Ltd., Derby, England. Dear Mr. Hives: Re Kingston Oil Vac We have received your inquiry about this device and have interviewed the New York representative, Mr. Kemp. We shall shortly send you a tank and send herewith such particulars as we have been able to gather. Features. The Coulombe patents cover - (a) The construction of a vacuum tank having a very much less number of parts than the conventional tank. By the use of an intermittent syphon to replace the ordinary toggling mechanism, the number of working parts is greatly reduced and such parts as are used are very strongly constructed. (b) The production of vacuum by the use of a special design of oil pump (which may or may not be the main oil pump of the engine). This is a safety device causing the engine to stop when the oil level gets too low. The rate of fuel supply is therefore more or less directly dependent on engine speed and the intake vacuum effect which tends to give least feed at full throttle when it is most needed, is avoided. These two features are independent in that the tank may be used with- | ||
