c.Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} BY/EM3/J.7.1.30. K3866 NITRO ALLOY PARTS. With reference to your RHC{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer}5/BE31.12.29. we note that the 'F' type cylinder liners are now being proceeded with. With respect to the gears for India and Phantom rear axles, this material was ordered in March last but in this case we are pleased that nothing has been done as later information shows that there are technical objections to the manufacture of gears and pinions both in Nitro Alloy material. We are requesting 'G' Department to issue to you the necessary instructions for the manufacture of the following:- (1) Phantom Chassis, one gear in nitro-alloy with pinion in standard 5% nickel case hardening steel. (2) One gear in standard 5% nickel case hardening steel with pinion in nitro-alloy. (3) 20 H.P. Chassis. The same as one and two above. Will Mr.D'Aeth kindly take the foregoing as an instruction and issue the necessary particulars to the Experimental Department to enable them to produce four sets of gears, two for the 20 H.P. and two for the 'Phantom' chassis in accordance with the above.
