SECRET 18774 Sports Model Wor{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager}9/T.7-10-27. To Bd.{Mr Berend} from Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} (Bd.{Mr Berend} is struck through) c to H.{Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} c to Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c to Ol. (Ol. is struck through) Questions. In discussing the absolutely necessary changes mentioned by R.{Sir Henry Royce}, he gave me to understand that none of these really are likely to take much time as nearly all of them had already been done. In regard to highly desirable items, it would be helpful if we knew what length of delay would be necessary to incorporate these, but I rather expect that they cannot be incorporated on account of time. The desirable and not so very necessary items need only be included if this can be done without delay whilst the other items are being prepared. (a) What is the position of each item and whether you have obtained the drawings from WW. (b) What delay is likely to be incurred by introducing each item. (c) Whether it is likely to prove expensive to introduce it. My chief object is to get a chassis prepared to start off for 10,000 miles at the earliest possible moment and that that chassis shall be one which R.{Sir Henry Royce} agrees is suitable to issue to the public, subject to the 10,000 miles being satisfactory. Answers. We agree with R.{Sir Henry Royce} We agree with you. All these items can be introduced without delay. We have answered this in going over each item. We have answered this in going over each item. No, no more cost. We think that in five or six weeks or certainly seven, we shall have a car ready, but the bodies may be the stumbling block, because it is essential that the body which is used on the 10,000 miles test car should be similar in construction to that which it is intended to supply to the customer. contd. | ||
