Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} c.c. G.W.H. 22. G.{Mr Griffiths - Chief Accountant / Mr Gnapp} V.{VIENNA} PETROL PUMPS. A partial failure of the petrol supply occurred during the hot weather last week (Air Temperature 32°c). Each half of the petrol pump was tried in turn. One half gave a reduced delivery enabling a maximum speed of 60 MPH. only to be attained. The other half would not deliver petrol at all. The movement had become completely sluggish. Next day under cool conditions, both sides of the pump worked normally and maximum speed could be maintained with either half alone connected up. Later, when the temperature had risen, the side which had failed before, ceased to deliver petrol but this time ran at high speed. There was no vapour pressure in the pipes. When the pump had cooled it worked normally. We therefore conclude that the petrol failure experienced on the 30 HP. cars is the result of the effect of heat on the pump unit itself, which is unreliable at high temperatures. ---------------- GWH{George W.
