OY-9 July 10th, 1929. Mr. R.W.H. Bailey, Rolls Royce Ltd., Derby, England. c - Mr. Hives Dear Mr. Bailey: CHASSIS LUBRICATION - SECTION 7141 I attach prints of the Bijur "K type" drip plugs and a list of the plugs used on the present Springfield chassis. These parts are made of duralumim and are very light and convenient to handle. In 12,000 miles road test they show vastly less leakage particularly under repeated disconnection and reconnection than we get with the R.R. union type of plug with brazed nipple or with the banjo type of plug. Getting most of the brazing off this job is a great advantage for ease and cost of installation, cleanliness of connections, etc. Mr. Bijur has spent several years developing this particular form of compression union to do the following:- (1) Make a tight joint. (2) Avoid twisting the pipe. (3) Remake the joint after a number of disconnections. (4) Pull up to a "definite" point when the nut is tightened. We think he has been more successful in these unions than in any other compression design we have seen. We are told that you can obtain all these parts from "Luvax" if you are interested. Very truly yours, ROLLS ROYCE OF AMERICA, INC. Maurice Olley | ||
